Have we really been here a whole month already?! Wow. It is already going by so quickly, and we've barely explored beyond our immediate neighborhood. We better get busy!
John seemed to have a good first week of school. His teachers are very thorough and he was happy and playing each time I picked him up. His classmates are from all over the world -- two others from the US, and others from Israel, Brazil, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, and India. He has two teachers, one from Canada and one from China.
Nothing too profound to report except that things get easier each day. We're more confident getting around town, we're comfortable in our apartment, we've been able to find groceries and supplies, and we just hired an ayi (housekeeper/nanny) who will come a few times a week-- a luxury and blessing, for sure! The ladies' Bible study through our church started this week, and we'll go to a family study this evening. We're enjoying all the great food, making friends, and starting to feel like we actually LIVE here. We even got to go on a date night last night!
At the same time, there are things we miss. Our friends and family, obviously. Chile rellenos, Target, English ... But we're thankful that we haven't (yet) hit the "low" that we've heard comes after a few weeks here.
