Christmas Tree 2007

John puts the star on the Christmas tree (with a little help from Daddy)

Our annual Comedy of Christmas Tree Errors continued this weekend. This year we do actually have a tree -- unlike last year's disaster -- and it is up, though only partially decorated at this point.

We spent a good bit of Sunday telling John that we were going to go out to dinner and get our Christmas tree. And the first part went as planned -- dinner at the new Mighty Fine Burgers (which is worth the trip for the hand sanitizing station alone). Then, we headed off to Lowe's, having decided that venturing out to Elgin in the cold rain with a newborn and a temperamental two year old might not end well. But Lowe's was in the process of closing.

So we headed home. And for the first time all day, John piped up, "We're going to get a Christmas tree." I told him that I was sorry, but that the store was closed and we would have to try again the next day. "Where is my Christmas tree?" Uh-oh. But Home Depot was still open, so Tommy and John went back out and picked out our tree.

They brought it in, and I filled the tree stand with about a gallon of water. We put the tree in, and then noticed that there was about a gallon of water on the living room floor. Cracked tree stand. So the tree went back outside. Yesterday I got a new tree stand, and last night we brought the tree back inside. John took care of the star honors, and now we're all set for decorating.
