Latest Favorites

Haven't done a major "what's John doing now" update in a while, so here are his latest favorites. (Format a la Dawn. ;-)) For those of you keeping score, he's up to 22 lbs. 4 ounces -- making up most of what he lost in December.

Favorite foods -- Anything he can eat with a fork. Ever since he discovered the fun and joy of utensils, he asks for a fork every time he eats. Peas, macaroni, eggs -- even English muffins taste better when stabbed repeatedly with a blunt-ended fork. And eggs are a particular favorite these days. He wants them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Favorite toys -- His favorites here fall into two categories -- things on a farm, and things with wheels. So his John Deere tractors and his Little People farm keep him entertained for quite a while. John's also gotten into coloring, and identifying colors -- especially blue. He loves Elmo, and now thanks to our time in Connecticut, Dora and Boots and "Back Ack". He's had a lot of fun with his Laugh & Learn House that he got for Christmas. Big surprise, since it has a door AND a light switch.

Favorite games -- Spinning in the desk chair, hugging the cat, and playing hide and seek with us. He's not so good at the hide part. He stands there while we close our eyes and count, and then runs as soon as we look up. He loves to run and flop in the dog bed as soon as he gets out of the bathtub. (To clarify on these last two -- John doesn't really run. Yet. He has his walk, his faster walk, and then his really fast walk.) Also climbing the stairs, pushing the wagon around the house, and the perennial favorite, opening and closing doors all over the house. The biggest game, and biggest no-no, is the "bottom" game. He stands up in rather precarious places -- like in his boosterseat, or in the shopping cart, or on his changing table -- and grins, and then says "bottom" and sits back down. Over and over again.

Favorite books -- Cowboy Bunnies and Llama Llama are still high on the list. Also Hop on Pop, the Read Aloud Bible Stories series, and the first 6 pages of Skippyjon Jones.

Favorite songs -- Most of the Biscuit Brothers CD, but especially the Crazy Classics version of Beethoven. Oh, and Jimmy Dean's "Big John", which sends him into fits of laughter every time he hears it.

Other milestones, quirks, and favorites -- John is getting really good at his animal sounds. He has most of the common ones down, though we're still trying to teach him what a llama says -- this is proving difficult since we think they just spit. If he hears a song, either one we sing or on the radio, he always claps and says "yay" at the end. He bows his head and folds his hands to pray, but then says "OK, OK, Amen" about 5 seconds in.

We're dealing with a preview of the Terrible Twos, where he has tantrums and says no. A lot. So we know that The Discipline is right around the corner. But overall, he is still sweet, cuddly, and just a joy to be around.
