The Crab Lady

This was the scene outside the gate of our compound yesterday -- a woman selling freshly-caught, live crabs from some buckets on the side of the road. We passed her on our way to breakfast and she was doing pretty brisk business for an early Saturday morning. An hour later, she was still there, wrapping the crabs up in twine and handing them out to the customers, sprinkling water on them to keep them fresh, catching the ones who tried climb over the side of the bucket and tossing them back in.

We didn't have anyone selling crabs out of buckets on our street in Austin, that's for sure.
