What A Week!

How did it get to be October already? Here's a look back at all we've been up to in the last week or so ...

As the great exodus from Austin continued, we hosted a going-away party last Saturday night for the Rankins along with other friends from Redeemer. Just as people started arriving, a huge storm blew in -- and blew out our power. That's right -- no lights, no A/C. Turns out that candlelight actually classes up a brisket buffet quite a bit. And John threw in his own editorial comments, bellowing "Bye Bye!" to anyone in earshot as his bedtime approached.

On Tuesday, we packed the house to the gills. Shae arrived to spend a few days with us while she attended a seminar for work, and after the movers left with all their stuff, the Rankins crashed here for their final night in Austin. Matthew, we know you're kicking yourself for not fully appreciating earlier just how awesome the commute is from this part of town. ;-) Just kidding, even though we do miss y'all already.

And I'm SO glad that Shae was here so that I had someone to eat ice cream (and fudge!) with while watching the whole McDreamy/McVet fiasco unfold. Seriously. We can't wait to see y'all in Houston -- and the new house!

On Friday afternoon, Dawn and I managed to get ourselves and the boys in gear and try out Radijazz, the "indoor playnasium." Several thousand square feet of foam and carpet equals toddler heaven.

Notice the resemblence between John and the big swan?

The foam pit was not popular with the boys (or the moms, either)

Of course, we wouldn't be true Houston sports fans if we didn't flip-flop between cursing the Astros and anxiously watching Friday night's game over pizza with the Parkers. You know, it would be so much less stressful if the team would play well during the season instead of just at the tail end of it. Oh well. On to next year.

Yesterday we went to San Antonio to celebrate Abilene's first birthday. She handled her cake like a pro, and even was nice enough to let Brody and John take her new Mickey Mouse scooter-thingy for a spin.

We also watched the Aggie game, but we won't discuss that. And today was church, and naps for everyone -- allergies have hit us all pretty hard.

So, that's our week in a nutshell. What all have you been up to?
